IDEAL FOR PATIENTS SUFFERING FROM NOSEBLEEDS, PROVEN TECHNOLOGY FOR
FAST, EFFECTIVE HEMOSTASIS IS NOW AVAILABLE
For ENT, Emergency Medicine, Urgent Care and Hospital Professionals, Woundseal MD for Nosebleeds Proven To Stop
Bleeding Instantly
SARASOTA, Fla. – October 12, 2010 – Severe bleeding. Loss of breath. Panic. Embarrassment. All ill effects felt by
patients suffering from nosebleeds. And all problems that can be alleviated in seconds through Woundseal MD for
Nosebleeds.
To provide medical professionals with a safe and effective way to stop bleeding in seconds and help reduce the chance
of infection, even for patients who are anticoagulated, Biolife has rebranded its PRO QR for Nosebleeds to a more
advanced WoundSeal MD for Nosebleeds product.
A topical powder that is applied directly to the wound with an applicator, WoundSeal MD for Nosebleeds improves
patient outcomes by allowing patients to breathe easily without the inconvenience associated with removing packing or
other material from the nose. There is less chance of a rebleed and the seal/scab that is created stays in place as the
wound heals.
“For more than 30 years, I have been confronted with epistaxis in a busy ER,” states David F. Guerrieri, M.D. an
Emergency Medicine physician in a leading Los Angeles area hospital. “While I used "low-tech" methods for dealing
with the problem, I now use WoundSeal with the assurance that hemostasis will be at hand. I've never had some
untoward development which allows me to move on to the next challenge.”
Not only effective for treating patients with nosebleeds and hard-to-reach wounds, WoundSeal MD is also a great value.
The product is now available in a six-count box of single-use applications – two more applications than PRO QR powder
– at the same price.
Ingredients and Mechanism of Action
A non-prescription, hypo-allergenic topical powder, WoundSeal MD is comprised of a hydrophilic polymer and
potassium ferrate. When combined with blood or exudates and light pressure is applied to the wound, the topical
powder works independently of the blood clotting cascade to create an instant scab to stop the bleeding and seal the
wound.
The iron component within the powder interacts with blood proteins to form a thin, strong membrane at the
wound/powder interface, which stops the bleeding and creates an occlusive barrier. In-vitro studies show that this
barrier creates a hostile environment against colonizing microbes. On the distal side of the seal, pH is low, ~2, while on
the proximal side, pH is neutral. WoundSeal not only stops the bleeding and absorbs exudates, but may help prevent
infection.
Proven Technology Through Third Party Study
Since the original PRO QR Powder was launched in 2007, the product has enhanced its formulation and further
demonstrated efficacy through clinical testing focused on hemostasis and rate of healing. While the wound care
studied was different than nosebleeds, the same Woundseal MD powder was used.
The clinical study published this year in the Journal of Drugs and Dermatology compared the safety and efficacy of
WoundSeal MD to a sterile, compressed surgical sponge for second-intention healing following Mohs Micrographic
Surgery (MMS). In this study, where 50 percent of patients were on some form of anticoagulant therapy, WoundSeal MD
showed greater efficacy and more rapid onset of action compared with the control. WoundSeal also reduced erythema
and produced less scarring, with a tendency towards reduction in wound size.
WoundSeal MD for Nosebleeds is available for purchase through healthcare distributors such as Henry Schein, Moore
Medical and PSS. A special introductory offer is also available by calling Biolife directly at 1-800-722-7559.
